The moldavite is an olive green shade glassy material to dark green, which can form during a meteorite impact. The moldavite is sometimes sold as an ornamental stone, cut and polished, under the name of chrysolite or pseudo-chrysolite. The name of this gem does not refer to the region of Moldova but the Czech locality of Tyn n Vltavou, located in the part of South Bohemia and formerly known under its German name Moldautein, where the moldavite is particularly abundant.
